Wounds

What should I do if my child has a wound?

Dirty wounds must be thoroughly cleaned (e.g., with water and a soft brush) and then disinfected. Gaping wounds may need to be stitched or glued. Please ensure that tetanus vaccinations are up to date.

Burns and scalds should be evaluated by a pediatrician, especially in young children, or if the injury is over a joint, in the genital area, on the face, or covers a large area. After the accident, cool the area locally with 20°C (68°F) water (not too cold and not for too long) to avoid the risk of hypothermia.
